- DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
-
- Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
- before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
- using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
- differ on details ── some request registration while others
- require it, some specify a maximum trial period. ZFace requires
- registration within 30 days of first use.
-
- Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
- and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
- exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
- programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
- of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
- and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
- distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
- and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
- specific group. For example, some authors require written
- permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
- Shareware.
-
- Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
- should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
- whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
- fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.
- And because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware
- has the ultimate money─back guarantee ── if you don't use the
- product, you don't pay for it.
-

-
- LICENSE AND AGREEMENT
-
- ZFace is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge to
- the user for evaluation. You may copy and distribute the program
- to whoever you wish provided that the disk or archive file
- containing ZFace contains all the files and nothing but the
- files. To distribute a copy of ZFace as part of a compilation or
- with some other software package or text file, you must first
- contact the author at the address or phone numbers listed below
- for permission.
-
- The essence of "user─supported" software is to provide personal
- computer users with quality software without high prices, and yet
- to provide incentive for programmers to continue to develop new
- products. If you find this program useful and find that you are
- using ZFace after a 30 day trial period, you must make a
- registration payment of $25.00. A registration form can be found
- at the end of this manual.
-
- The $25.00 registration fee will license one copy for use on any
- one computer at any one time. You must treat the registered
- version of this software just like a book. An example is that
- this software may be used by any number of people and may be
- freely moved from one computer location to another, so long as
- there is no possibility of it being used at one location while
- it's being used at another. Just as a book cannot be read by two
- different persons at the same time. Site licenses and other
- multiuser arrangements may be made by contacting the author.
-
- Users of ZFace must register and pay for their copies of the
- program within 30 days of first use or their license to use ZFace
- is withdrawn.
-
- When you register ZFace you will receive:
-
- * Notification of upgrades
- * Unlimited technical support
- * Acknowledgment and Thanks for your support and encouragement.
-
- Anyone distributing ZFace for any kind of remuneration must first
- contact the author at the address below for authorization. This
- authorization will be automatically granted to ASP approved
- vendors. However, the author must still be advised so that the
- distributor can be kept up─to─date with the latest version of
- ZFace.

- OMBUDSMAN STATEMENT
-
- "This program is produced by a member of the Association of
- Shareware Professionals (ASP). ASP wants to make sure that the
- shareware principle works for you. If you are unable to resolve a
- shareware─related problem with an ASP member by contacting the
- member directly, ASP may be able to help. The ASP Ombudsman can
- help you resolve a dispute or problem with an ASP member, but
- does not provide technical support for members' products. Please
- write to the ASP Ombudsman at 545 Grover Road, Muskegon, MI 49442
- or send a CompuServe message via CompuServe Mail to ASP Ombudsman
- 70007,3536."

- INTRODUCTION
-
- File archiving programs, like PKZIP, are handy utilities for
- condensing many files into one much smaller file. This makes it
- fast and easy to transfer files among different users either on
- floppy disks or via modems. It's easy because you only have to
- deal with one file. It's fast because one smaller file will
- take less time to upload or download over a modem. But there is
- a downside...
-
- PKZIP and other file archiving programs are command line based.
- That means, in order to use them, you must remember and type in
- long commands and switches at the C:> prompt. If you want to
- archive more than one file, you have to remember all the file
- names or create a list of files the archiving program can use.
- With so much software that is menu based, many users don't need
- or want to learn long, typed commands and switches or create
- extra file lists. A need for a menu based interface for
- archiving programs is indicated.
-
- This is where ZFace comes in. ZFace was created as an MENU
- driven interface for command line based archiving programs.
- ZFace is simple to use, you just tell ZFace what you want to do
- by selecting an action from a menu, then tell it what files to
- work on by selecting them from a list. ZFace does the rest.
-
- File archiving programs, like PKZIP, usually have a myriad of
- options. These options may be needed by some users but many
- people only need to Zip, View and Unzip files. At this time
- only PKZIP is supported. Other programs will be supported in a
- future release. ZFace supports the following PKZIP options:
-
- Zip
- Create a new .zip file.
- Update existing .zip file with a newer version of a file.
- Add files to an existing .zip file.
- Zip directories
- View
- View contents of .zip file.
- Unzip
- Unzip all files in a .zip file.
- Unzip selected files in a .zip file.
- Restore zipped directories.
- Zip─to─EXE *
- Create a self extracting Zip file.
-
- * Zip─to─EXE is a PKZIP program (zip2exe.exe) that allows you to
- convert an existing .zip file into a self─extracting .exe file.
- The self─extracting file can be unzipped at the command line
- simply by typing its name and pressing <ENTER>. The PKZIP
- program is NOT required. That makes it easy to give a zipped
- file to anyone, whether they have a copy of PKZIP or not.
